Musician's Wellness is a one-term course offered at Portland State University and Marylhurst University addressing the health and well being of all musicians. In this course musicians learn to prevent injury and create a healthy lifestyle for themselves. Students explore course topics through readings, lectures, essays, discussions and group activities. All participants are invited to participate in class performances, which offer a supportive, non- judgmental environment for sharing music.
Topics of study include: how to practice, elements of a healthy life style, stretch routines, preventing vocal strain, preventing hearing loss, the Alexander technique, neuromuscular injury prevention, psychological and emotional well-being, creating a community of musicians, community resources, common musicians injuries and treatment modalities.
All musicians are welcome to attend this course; it is not limited to students enrolled in the school of music.
